About the Art

It was in New Mexico that Ken turned his creative talents back to painting. Inspired by the vibrant colors and spatial dynamics, Ken wanted his art to have an immediate personal and visual impact on the viewer.

He works in oils, having refined his technique under the tutelage of Taos artist and teacher Richard Nichols. He paints impressionistic landscapes gleaned from personal experiences in the southwest while pursuing his other interests: downhill skiing, fly fishing, mountain biking, and hiking. Many evenings you will find him swing dancing at the Sagebrush Inn or anywhere the music swings!

Bio

Ken was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he was an artistic child even in grade school. He earned a BA in Art at St. John’s University in Minnesota.

He worked for several years on the exhibition crew at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. Using the technical cabinetry skills learned there led to Ken starting a custom cabinetry business that he worked for 30 years. In 2003 Ken bought property in New Mexico seeking to add some sunshine to his life. He and his wife divide their time between NM and MN.

My passion is the land, finding inspiration literally everywhere.
During their free time these women like to craft, help each other out with latest project, give each other feedback, and participate in the Questa Studio Tour and Christmas Bazaar.
I look for ways to push the materials and bend the scene to the feelings that led me to make that particular picture.
